Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was suspended from work because I left the delivery van key on shelf by back door & forgot about it,someone took it&stole the van.my boss said it was my mistake for leaving key by door,so he suspended me til further notice.they found the van,it was in good condition & key was in it also...I still don't know if I'm fired or going to be allowed back to work.is this wrongful punishment/terminiation for making a mistake?

In CA, not only are you an 'at will' employee that can be disciplined or terminated any time for any reason, with or without �cause�, explanation or notice, but they have substantial 'good cause' for termination. Not meaning to be offensive to you, but how could you not understand that negligence leading to the theft of the vehicle is cause for firing?
