taped without knowledge at work

Is it legal for a company to tape it's employees while they are working without their knowledge? I understand they may not be able to use the video in court, but could they use it to fire employees.

Taping private conversations without one's knowledge is unlawful. Video taping, may be less intrusive, depending upon where it is done and whether the employee has a reasonable expectation of privacy.
