Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was terminated from my job due to budget cuts, however, I was the only employee terminated and they have already filled my position with current employee. Prior to my termination there were accusations of employee misconduct between my manager and me, as well as two other female employees. The same accusations were also made about my supervisor and another employee in our department. Following an investigation, no actions were taken by the company other than our department having to attend meeting ran by HR which ended in us signing sexual harassment and gossiping waivers. About a month later, one of the accused employees was let go for reasons unknown to me and then I was let go 3 days later. 2 other women whose names were brought up to have had inappropriate misconduct with my manager were moved to another department the day after I was let go. Both, the manager and supervisor involved in the claims still have their jobs and remain in their current departments and positions. At the time of my termination, the operations manager relieved me of my position in our public office in which my co-workers walked in on me crying and cleaning out my desk, resulting in an embarrassing attempt to go un-noticed. Do I have a legitimate case regarding wrongful termination as well as defamation?

Generally, unless you have a contract, you can be terminated at any time, for no reason at all. But if there was an ulterior motive for firing you, it may be wrongful. Your facts don't seem to support a defamation claim, and may not support a wrongful termination claim. I suspect there is more information. A knowledgeable employment attorney would be able to get those facts necessary to determine if you have a claim. Find one in your area and meet with him or her.
