do I have to have renters insurance? Dosent the owners insurance take care of the renters loss?

No, the owner's insurance obviously can only cover what the owner owns or pay for the damages caused by the owner. If there is an electrical fire in your unit, and the owner was not aware of any electrical problem or it was caused by a rat eating through the line, his insurance will cover the damage to the building but not your contents. You do not have to have insurance, but fnd out how lmuch it will cost to see if it is worthwhile. Remember, if you have a party and someone gets injured, they may sue you and you have no insurance coverage.
