Re: landlord tenant

How specifically do you know that he is charging you more for renewal than what he would charge another tenant? Irrespective, unless you have rent control, or your lease still has a remaining term (which appears not to be the case), then your landlord can charge you whatever he wishes. There is no law that prohibits him from charging what he believes to be market rent for a unit, or for that matter, even charging more than market rent. Your options, if you don't have a remaining term on your lease, are (1) pay what he is demanding, and remain in the unit, (2) negotiate a better deal with him - just because he's demanding it, doesn't mean he's going to get it, or (3) move out.
