Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in California

I am renting a room to a tenant. I have presented him with an eviction letter(not the legal form) but I am taking a trip and do not want to do the legal steps until I get back. He has a dog and is not coming home to care for it. Am I legally responsible for the dog while in my house? I'm taking my trip very soon and don't know what to do.

I do not see why you should be responsilble for the dog, but you might want to report the tenant to the authorities for misbehavior to the dog. You can serve a three day notice and then wait before you act on it.

You might contact the city/county animal control folks and solicit their advice. Certainly, you would not want to see any harm come to the dog.
