Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

dismissal

I was hired by a place that had no intentions of keeping me on from the start because I was hired by someone they terminated within days of him hiring me. I was given a day off with pay because I had to spend my off day picking up my pay check that was never issued. The day of my return my supervisor told me I was being let go because of who hired me but on the paper was written I complained about my duties and pay so was suspend and now dismissed. Is this legal? They basicly wanted to avoid a law suit by not placing me when someone else had hired me. I had never complained and did everything asked of me. I was only there for about three weeks. I was also never told I was suspended. I was being supervised by a sibling couple which is against company policy.

Re: dismissal

Hard to answer, based on your statement of facts.

Employers have the right to hire, and fire, as they please, provided there is no discrimination. If you are fired because of sex, sexual orientation, religion, color of skin, ethnic background, age, body type (fat or thin), you have a case. If they don't want you because the person who hired you made poor decisions, that is not discrimination.

Unless you can add reasons why they discriminated against you (a sibling couple doesn't count), there is no likelihood of prevailing in a law suit.
