Legal Question in Legal Ethics in California

Hotmail closing my account without any pre warning and post explanations

Since 4 days ago hotmail has closed my account for no reason. They did not give any pre-warning or anything else what so ever. Since then I have tried to contact MSN support team and they do not give me any reason or clue what so ever. Their customer support team refers me to the Technical Support and their technical Support referes me to their Customer service.

Here is a deal. Unlike most hotmail users I am not using their free service. I have Hotmail Plus which is about $35 a year service. So I am very shocked about their ignorance.

In these days I am to receive very important e-mails. And my denial to my account would be very costly to me and the Student Organization I am the board member of. Also I have various online Price Quotes and Proofs in my account, which I have to have access to, other wise the Student Organization I am the administrator will lose thousands of dollars of funds they have been given from the University of California Davis.

Please let me know what should I do legally to make MSN understand my rights on this situation.

Send MSN a certified letter, return receipt, and keep a copy, stating exactly what you stated in your inquiry -- that they're basically withholding from you your personal and/or business information, that you could be held financially liable for information that you can't retrieve, etc. Do it immediately and keep a copy.

Sometimes an account will be closed if a person violates the terms of service -- i.e. posts disparaging comments, uploads pornography, etc. MSN turned over search terms to the US government in its supposed pornography investigation. Google is fighting it. Open an account with another provider who doesn't roll over and invade subscribers' privacy.

In the future, please remember to retain sensitive information off-line.
