Most loan modification companies are scams. The Nevada and California Bars are super-ready to discipline attorneys who work with these scam companies. But just because a company is called First American Law doesn't mean it operates with lawyers. As you said, "no attorney present." A licensed attorney has a valuable license to lose by scamming. This isn't fail-safe for clients, but clients are less likely to be ripped off by a licensed attorney than by some guy who just prints up business cards and calls himself a loan modifier.
