Legal Question in Personal Injury in California

Reimbursement payments

i was in an accident last year during the month of November and it was

the other person's fault. so the other person insurance is taking of my

car but in the meantime i was suppose to get a rental car for the past 2

months, i got it but i rented the ca from someone i know and paid him

out of my pocket and they were going to reimburse me for the cost but

now since i didn't get the rental from a rental company, am i still eligible

to get the reimbursement from the insurance company?
