Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Dmv drivers license suspension - service requirements

I was recently in the process of purchasing a vehicle from a co-worker. I was pulled over for tinted windows. My license is expired as I have not had a car for awhile. The officer said my license was SUSPENDED per DMV. He claims I was served by certified mail at a previous address. I did not sign certified mail from the DMV or anyone indicating my license was suspended. Isn't the DMV required to personally serve you if they are suspending your license? I am positive the signature on little green card is not my signature yet I have been unable to get DMV to provide me with a copy of the card. Isn't DMV supppose to look at the name of the driver and the name signed on the green card to make sure the right person gets served? The roomate I had at that time is LEGALLY BLIND and why she'd sign something not addressed to her is anyones guess. HELP !! I have to go to court on this and I do not have a copy of the green card from DMV to show it was not I who signed. I did not know about this ''suspension.'' HELP !
