If I have a failure to appear, when I go to court can I plead not guilty for the accused crime in the state of california?

It depends what the crime is. If it is an infraction you may have already been found guilty and a fine may have been assessed, If this is the case it has been turned over to collections and it is too late to plead not guilty.

On the other hand if it is a misdemeanor or a felony a bench warrant may have been issued for your arrest. You should see an attorney and get this taken care of immediately before you are arrested and bail is set. If you are unable to hire an attorney, counsel will be appointed to represent you, Talk to you attorney but you can certainly plead not guilty.
