Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

I got a traffic violation for having both ears covered by headphones. I am thinking about contesting the ticket with a trial by written declaration, and then requesting a followup trial if that doesn't succeed. I am only wondering if I would give up my eligibility for traffic school by contesting the ticket. I can't afford to have my car insurance rate increase and keeping my driving record clean is very important to me. Does contesting my ticket make me ineligible for traffic school or decrease my chances of being able to take traffic school?

By choosing TBD, you give up the right to go to traffic school. However, if you go to trial de novo later, you may ask the judge's permission to go to traffic school if you lose, which the judge may or may nor grant.
