Legal Question in Traffic Law in California

Transfer of case from one county to another?

I lived in Santa Barbara county for awhile. While I was there, I got a speeding ticket, a traffic ticket, an alcohol violation, and was arrested for public drunknenness. I have since moved back to Contra Costa County to live with my parents. They have offered me a car, but I can't drive it because my license has been revoked because I failed to appear in court in Santa Barbara and can't pay the fines. I wanted to know if I could transfer the case(s) to the local court system, where I live, since it's impractical (and expensive) for me to revisit Santa Barbara to take care of this. Also, I am unemployed now, but I soon may get a job, and I might need the car to get to and from work. How do I deal with this? Is it possible to transfer my case to the local Superior court? How would I address this with the judges, do I need a lawyer?

Thank you for your posting.

While you may be able to serve cal-trans work, community service, or attend alcohol schools in another jurisdiction, the original court that sentenced you has jurisdiction, no matter what.

You can hire an attorney to handle your appearances in Santa Barbara and handle filing proof, to avoid having to appear, or appear yourself as needed.

I hope that this information helps, but if you have other questions, or want more information, or even feel that you need legal representation, please feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. Im happy to help in any way that I can.
