Legal Question in Business Law in Canada
How to get paid?
To make this easy, I did some renovation work for a contractor. It was almost a year ago and was paid a quarter of the total bill. I was wondering how I would go about getting the rest of the money. He gave me a post-dated cheque, and I contacted his bank on the date the cheque would have been valid and they told me that there was not enough or remotely close to be enoigh money in the account, what do I do?

Re: How to get paid?
You are past the 45 day period for filing a construction lien claim so that option is not available to you. You will have to sue on the debt and/or sue on the 'bad' cheque. Depending on the amount, you may wish to do this in small claims court. The jurisdiction of that court is anything under $10,000.
