Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

I was just caught stealing one $135.00 textbook from my university book store. I have to go to court in a couple of months and was wondering that if I plead guilty how long will that stay on my record if at all? Could I ask to have it removed from my record?

In Colorado, most convictions must stay on your record forever. This is a creature of statute and can change. BUT, if you were offered a deferred sentence and were not convicted of anything in the case, you could have it SEALED from public view.

If you plead guilty and a conviction is entered, convictions stay on your record for the rest of your life. If you have no previous criminal history, there is a good chance a plea bargain that will not result in a conviction and which could eventually be dismissed and sealed could be negotiated for you. If you like, please feel free to give me a call to discuss your options. Good luck.
