Legal Question in Criminal Law in Colorado

Hello. My son who is15 years old got arrested last week and got sent to juvenile detention and was held without bond for 2 days. He apparently had a warrant issued last July 2012, for a class 3 felony burglary & class 4 felony theft. He/we have never been notified of this warrant , a police officer did contact my husband last May and told us that someone accused my son of breaking into his house. The cop told my husband that if we go and pay the guy back that he wouldn't press charges. We were not just going to pay some guy that accused my son of this & so we told the cop to basically file the charges because my son didn't do it. And so, 9months later here we are with him being in jail for 2 days & 2 felony warrants for something he didn't do. Do you recommend a public defender or a paid lawyer because we can't afford much & we are taking this to trial. Thank you.

Colorado has one of the best public defender systems in the US; a private-hire attorney usually has more time to give any particular case, but will typically charge several thousand dollars. Whether or not you go with appointed or privately retained counsel is strictly up to you.
