Child Support Effective Date

Simple Question... When is Child Support enforced... at the time of Separation, or Date of Divorce? I think I know the logical answer, but need to be sure.

Re: Child Support Effective Date

Child support begins when a Court of competent jurisdiction enters a Judgment or Decree requiring it. Most generally there is a schedule of amounts and due dates established at that time.

There can be retroactive child support, however, dating back to the time of separation, if it is included in the same Judgement or Decree.
