Legal Question in Family Law in Colorado

When does child support start

I am going through a divorce that my wife and I are doing ourselves. We have filed the papers but have not gone through the actual court hearings. My question is at what point am I required to pay child support?

Re: When does child support start

You will be required to pay child support as of the date of the Court's final decree of dissolution of marriage. Whether the Court orders you to pay child support for the time period prior to that date is up to the Court. The Court may or may not raise the issue on its own, and the parties (either you or your wife) can obviously raise that issue to the Court as well. Also note that if you and your wife can agree on that issue, the Court is very likely to adopt whatever agreement you and your wife can make.
