my ex father in law is trying to get my income garnished for a bill that was supposedly squashed in the divorce.

By "squashed" I presume you mean "quashed" or "cancelled". There are very few kinds of bills the divorce court can actually quash, so please consult an attorney and take your divorce documents with you. Even if the bill was not quashed, there is a good chance, based on what you've said, that the Court ordered your ex to be solely responsible for that bill. An attorney looking at the document can best advise you on your options for using the divorce papers to defend against the garnishment.
