Legal Question in Immigration Law in Colorado

Marriage, Immigration and Passport Law

Hey, all. Few questions. I live in Colorado, and I'm thinking about getting married abroad.

1. What's the shortest time that I can obtain a passport?

2. If I get married out-of-country, when we come back to the states, what status will my new bride have, and what steps do we have to take to get her citizenship as opposed to us getting married here?

3. In the instance of me leaving the country, what will my status be if I live elsewhere for three years?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Marriage, Immigration and Passport Law

If you get married abroad, you new wife will need an immigrant visa to enter the US. This can take quite awhile depending on the country she is a national of.

If you are a US citizen, you can apply for a passport and that could take several weeks to several months. Leaving the US will not affect your US citizenship.
