Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Colorado

My Identify in Book

A book has been written and published by a former acquaintance about a past experience. The book is based on the author's diary and does contain some factual information (place, time, events, etc.). I am directly referenced by my full name in this book. However, the authors interpretation of me and my actions in the book is based on opinion and speculation. I am portrayed in a manner that I find insulting and embarrassing (e.g., author's opinion of my physical appearance, my motivation for particular actions, or what I am think about on a particular day). I am curious what my rights are here, as I am not sure what to do about this. Any advice on my options would be most appreciated.

Re: My Identify in Book

this is not really an intellectual property issue, but a tort issue of "defamation of character"...you are advised to resubmit the question to a tort attorney. -Justin Lampel
