Can a company require one employee to take a 50% paycut while the rest remain unaffected?

An employer can generally pay its employees what it wants unless that amount is below the minimum wage (assuming they are not exempt). There is no legal requirement that all employees must be paid the same amount unless there is a contract to that effect or this is due to illegal discrimination.
