Legal Question in Traffic Law in Colorado

My friend recently got pulled over just to be questioned about a suspicious car in the neighborhood, I was texting in the passenger seat. He told me to stop using my phone and put it on the dash and then told everyone in the car to put their phones on the dash and not to touch them. Is it required that we comply according to the law in Colorado?

You must comply with all lawful orders.

I think that went too far, and frankly I think the cop didn't want anyone filming what was going on.
