Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Colorado

Inheritance

Hello,

I was contacted by a company in Sacramento, California that calls itself an ''International Probate Research'' firm that ''locates rightful heirs to unclaimed assets.'' They've asked myself and my six siblings to sign a contingency agreement to give them 18% of inheritance money that is due us from a long-lost, deceased relative in Colorado.

The company checks out as legitimate with the BBB, and their license checks out with the CA Dept of Consumer Affairs Licensing Bureau.

The representative presents himself as an attorney, although he is not. He has used hard-sales tactics on myself and my siblings. Some siblings have signed on, although I have not. This rep claims the portion per sibling after taxes and his fees is $25,000, and if we don't claim through him our portion will go to the state of Colorado, and those who did not sign on would have to go to great lengths to get it.

Can an estate be fully settle in the state of Colorado when there are known relatives that exist and haven't signed on with such a firm?

Is there a way to obtain one's portion of an inheritance without using heroic measures or hiring an attorney?

How does one have to prove they have a right to such money.

Thank you,

Kare

Re: Inheritance

In most cases, we recommend that you first consult with an experienced attorney in Colorado concerning a Colorado estate.

I do not have any information about the company you are asking about.
