Legal Question in Business Law in Connecticut

Slanderizing...

I own a tattoo studio that was built on its reputation of the name and quality. I have an apprentice that currently works a full time job elsewhere. He recently fired someone from his company. This person today called me and threatend to sue my studio and he threatend to make public false information. What legal steps can I take to prevent my business name from being slanderized?

Re: Slanderizing...

It's not clear to me on what basis this person threatened to sue you. I don't see any connection between this person and your company.

In certain circumstances you can sue for an injunction to prevent someone from continuing to slander. However, it's most likely not enough that this person threatened to make public false information. People threaten all sorts of things and it wouldn't make sense to make it very easy to be able to access the courts based upon a threat of this kind.

Based upon the facts in your question, it appears this person is merely angry and he is obviously attacking the wrong person.

However, if you do get sued you have several valid defenses. One may be that he has the wrong defendant.
