Legal Question in Construction Law in Connecticut

We had a company come onto our property to do some tree trimming & tree removal. We have a contract that he sent to us along with a diagram of what was to be done. He did not complete the work as noted in his own diagram but removed trees that we did not ask or want him to do. We gave him a down payment for the service but are withholding the remainder of the payment. Do we have to pay him anything more?

Only a court can answer whether you have to pay the balance. That is one of the reasons one does not give all the money up front.

You should make a demand for what you are looking for to resolve it and if it doesn't happen you will just not pay the rest of the money. You have damages for the trees he removed that he was not supposed to remove. It's not clear to me if what he actually did do other than that was what was agreed upon.
