Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Connecticut

My stepfather past away a couple of days ago. He left many medical expenses. My mom is frantic that she will be responsible for them. She 66 years old, doesn't own a home and has a small pension, ss, and a small 401k. Does she have any legal responsibility?

The only person responsible for debts is the person who has incurred them. So, even if debt collectors start calling your mother, she needs to remember that she is not required to pay. However, his debts may impact the estate and the assets that are left to heirs under the will, depending on how assets were held. Your stepmother should begin the probate process as soon as possible, in order to clean things up and make sure everything is in order.
