Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Adult child moving out.

Dear Lawguru,

We have a adult son(18) who has not been home 4 weeks. He has told our other children that he has moved out of our home but has refused talked to us about it. He has cut off all contact with us and has avoided all of our attempts to talk to him about it. Our problem is he still has property at our residence. We want it out ASAP. How do we go about legally removing his belongings and be sure not to violate his rights? He has never paid storage or any rent and is out of school.

Thank You

Re: Adult child moving out.

If you know where he is, send him a certified letter with a drop dead date, then give his stuff to Good Will or the like after that. If you don't know where he is, put an ad in the local paper, and do the same. The local paper might be embarassing, but it will protect you best. But, at the end of the day, even if you don't put it in the paper, how much can his stuff be worth? There's not much risk either way.
