Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Assignment and duties of executor or executrix

My family is planning vacation within the month. Recently, my grandfather has taken a turn for the worse in his 2+ yr long fight with dimentia, alzheimer's amongst other ailments. If we were on vacation, and someone were appointed the executrix status, could that person legally cremate and hold services formy grandfather, before we were to return from vacation? It may sound juvenile, and it is, but this is an opportunity for someone within our family to really HAVE IT THEIR WAY! Please advise...I have already written to the area Judge of Probate, and am unsure of what his reaction will be. THanks for your time! Jason

Re: Assignment and duties of executor or executrix

Please see an attorney for a more detailed discussion of the status of your father's condition and assets. There may be a will, joint proterty, designation of fiduciary of the estate or other factors not set forth in your question. The Judge will not usually respond as your father is still alive. Speak to an attorney.
