Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Child Custody

My son is 9 years old. His father and I have never been married. My son has always lived with me. Now his father has gotten married and wants custody of my son so that my son can go on her ( his wife )health insurance. Currently, my son has health insurance under his father because he doesn't have to pay extra for it, but there are some developmental issues that need to be addressed by specialists and the costs will be great unless he gets put under my insurance or the step mom. I know now that his father wants to take him from me because he thinks i could have raised him better or he can't afford support. I am not really sure what his motives are. I do not want to lose my son. What should I do?

Re: Child Custody

You would have to file a motion for custody of your son. Specifically, depending on whether there is an order already in effect, an original complaint for custody or a motion for modification would be needed.
