Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut

Child Support and Jail Time

A woman friend of mine suffers from panic attacks, paranoia, bipolar disorder and has applied for disability that she will be getting soon. In the meantime, she has been unemployed waiting for it to come through, barely able to scrape by save through handouts.

At this time, the court has ordered her to pay $2000 dollars next month. She only receives $400 a month (starting next month) and will not be able to pay. At this point, she has been informed that she is facing jail time if she cannot pay.

Is there anything she can do to avoid jail time, beyond somehow raising 5 months worth of money overnight?
