Legal Question in Family Law in Connecticut
My wife filed for divorce on May 1st in CT. I had until June 1 to respond to the complaint which I did. Since then, I have not heard from or received any requests from her attorney. I asked her if we were supposed to get together with an attorney to hammer out a mediation agreement regarding parenting, assets, etc. She tells me that we need to wait until the end of a 90-day "cooling off" period (8/31/2010) before we can sit down with her attorney and that will be followed by a September court date. I am self-represented and am worried that we will be rushing to complete matters if we wait until the end of August. Is it really the case that we have to wait until then or is she misinformed?

Actually, you are supposed to use the 90 days to try to strike a deal.
You should call her attorney and schedule a meeting so you can start working on a potential settlement. You can also schedule a mediation with a neutral person if her attorney will agree.
