Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Connecticut

Need help!

I am seperated from my husband, in the middle of a divorce and i met a foreign gentlemen who i developed very strong feelings for. I was supposed to travel to his country and 5 days before, he told me not to come. He had given me a substantial amount of money to move out of the house i was in and get set up on my own., I paid my rent in advance. He also gave me several thousands of dollars worth of gifts. He is now saying that he wants everything back. he has also been calling my mobile phone 20 times a day, my voice mail is full of him threatening me with lawsuits, jail time for stealing (i never stole anything from him), he says i hurt him and he wants me to pay. He has called my job to talk to my boss and read to her personal letters i wrote to him, he has spoken with my soon to be ex. He knew i was married, and was uncomfortable consumating the relationship until i was divorced. Basically he broke up with me, and now he's threatening me with all this stuff.

Should I be worried about any legal action against me?

Re: Need help!

First, you should file a restraining order for harrassment. Go to the police and let them listen to the v.mail messages and file a complaint.

The gifts he gave you are yours. The money is more difficult. He will claim it was a loan.

If you accessed his account by ATM or otherwise (even w/ his permission), you may have a big problem and should get an attorney ASAP.

Eventually, the burden will fall on you to show the money was a gift also. You will need witnesses to support you.

I strongly urge you to make the first move and get an atty and file a complaint against him.
