Legal Question in Employment Law in Connecticut

sign a fixed term contract

i was made to sign a one year contract for a consultant company, which placed me in a mid client company, which in turn placed me in an end client company.now the end client company has offered me a permanent job as an employee in it.am i bound to the one year initial contract signed with the consultant company which says if i leave them i have to pay 7500$? can any company make an individual sign such a contract? what happens if i break it and join my end client company as an employee? Thanks very much for your help.
