Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Connecticut

My apartment suffered an infestation of "Bedbugs" where a hive developed in a new $800 Matress and Boxspring. The building's owner(s) ordered the Superintendant to dispose of the furniture and I agreed fearing for my health due to the parasitic nature of the insects and it's severity. Another somewhat less exspensive bedset replacement was purchased. Shortly thereafter I discovered that vynil covers that act as a protective layer could be used to protect me even with an infestation and can eliminate the insects over a year's time, the average lifespan of the insect lives without food, meaning the original bedset did not nessesarilly need to be removed and disposed. My question is could I sue for compensation and/or pain and suffering of the cost(s) even after the fact that is been around 2+1/2 yrs sinse the incident ?

You said you agreed that they could dispose of the furniture. Therefore, since you agreed I'm not sure you would be successful.
