Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Connecticut

I have been renting an apartment for going on 6 months and my land lord is now refusing to accept a personal check. I have been paying with a personal check the whole time and have not bounced any or had any other issues. My problem is that he will only accept a bank check from 3 banks that I do not belong to and in order for them to give a bank check I must be a member and there would be an additional bank charge. My question is can he do this and what should I do?

Have you asked him why? Why don't you just give him cash and get a receipt signed by him each time you pay the rent. I would type up all of the receipts ahead of time so that all he does is sign the receipt in your presence each time you pay.

Otherwise, I would just pay by personal check. (unless your lease says otherwise) If he does not want to accept the payment, then he is just being foolish, if there has never been a problem before.
