Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut

Probate fees in Connecticut

How are probate fees determined in Connecticut? I understand the process for determing the executor's fee, but how are the attorney's fees determined for settling the estate? What is the range of dollar costs for a two million dollar estate? Thanks.

Attorney's fees are usually a matter of negotiation between the fiduciary and the attorney. They are often calculated on an hourly basis, although we offer a fixed fee alternative. Typically Executor's fees and attorneys fees combined range between 4 and 6% of the estate.

3-5% is the norm for attorneys. Even if you go by an hourly basis, it will usually come to around the same amount, unless it's a simple estate. You can't really judge by the value of the estate because if the deceased owned a million dollar home and had a million dollars in a bank account, it's certainly not worth paying a lawyer 5% to handle that.
