Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Connecticut

Quick Deed Transfer Connecticut

Hi,

My mother signed a quick deed transfer over to my sister 4 years ago after she had a stroke. The contract said as long as my mom was able to live in her house for 3 years, the contract was valid. While it has been 4 years, my sister said a new law is/was passed in CT requiring a longer time frame for the person signing over the property. I told her even if that were true, her contract would be grandfathered, but she is a wreck. Can you answer this question? Thank you.

Re: Quick Deed Transfer Connecticut

The contract is valid, that's not the question. The question is: if Mom applies for Title XIX benefits (asks the state to pay for the nursing home), how far back do they look to see if Mom gave away any property. It used to be 3 years, now it's 5 years. But there are exceptions when the property is given away in return for care given to Mom. If your sister has questions, she can call me.
