More information is needed, including a copy of the divorce decree.

The divorce decree will disclose if your mother simply obtained possession of the house without ownership transfer or obtained full ownership of the house.

If she obtained full ownership of the house, the transfer would have to go through probate.

The matter may have to go through probate anyway if she had liabilities, including credit card debt.
