Legal Question in Disability Law in Florida

Collection on medical bills

I had a baby in November and he spent the first 2 weeks in the hospital. Well since then I have been getting bills. Lots of them and have been paying them since they started. As long as I am paying them can I be turned into a collection agency? The doctors are calling me and telling me that. The total bills is about 85000.00 and I am paying what I can. Just want to know if they can actually send me to collections?

Re: Collection on medical bills

Yes, they can send you to collections and they can even sue you, but if you are paying what you can they usually do not. You should sit down with each provider that you owe and negotiate a reduced bill and a payment schedule. Those without insurance get ripped off with medical bills. If you had insurance, the bill probably would have been $8500, not $85,000. It is the biggest scam going, in my opinion. Tell each that without a fair adjustment you will just have to declare bankruptcy. Tell them that you would like the bill reduced to the insurance company rate and hope that they will do so.
