Legal Question in Business Law in Florida

Incorporated Business (NY/FL)

Five years ago, my boyfriend and I started a seasonal NY business together (which we incorporated). As a way to ''contain liability'', everything was put into his name, and I contributed to the business by working (without/for little pay). He handled much of the financial side of it, but we began to aquire assets after the first year. We have just broken up, and he is telling me I have no interest/stake in the business. I am not sure how to proceed or what rights if any I have in this situation. There is no contract. We live in FL when the season is over and have also incorporated other businesses which cover assets of the main company. Also, if this is the route I take, would I need a NY attorney or a FL attorney? Help!

I would need to speak with you personally to evaluate the situation better. I would need to know more information on any assets of the business which were incorporated. It would be easiest for you to e-mail me a phone number at a time to reach in there as it is possible.

You hurt yourself by not having anything in writing and it may be difficult for you to prove your contribution to the companies. If you sue, you will need to sue where your boyfriend and ideally most of the assets are located. We can go over the facts with you and give you a legal opinion.
