Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Can chapter 7 be limited to ONLYL medical bills

My husband & I have significant medical bills from a short term illness of one of our children. Even with insurance, the bill is astronomical. We own our own home, cars, etc and are current on all our bills. credit cards, etc, except there is no spare money to pay down these debts. If we tried to file chapter 7 could we limit it to only the medical bills? ALso would we actuall file chapter 7 or someting else. Would that mean we could no longer use that hospital in an emergency? Could they refuse to provide us care?

Bankruptcy cannot be limited to only one creditor - it covers all. All assets and debts must be listed and treated equally. The laws changed in the past few years and there are new rules regarding who must file for what. You should meet with a bankruptcy attorney and discuss your particular situation to find out if bankruptcy is a viable answer to your problem (which it may not be) and, if so, what chapter you would have to file based on income.
