Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Credit Card Theft, charges and legal proceedings.

My Daughter is 17 and attending college in central Fla. A college friend just recieved a credit card bill with 22 unauthorized transactions totalling around $500. I am not sure if the girl herself is responsible and doesn't want to admit it to her parents or if her card was really stolen and used by the thief. This girl is looking for a way out. She has accused my daughter of the unauthorized use of her card and is blaming her for the charges. My husband and I are appauled at the accusations.

After speaking to the other girls parents, they have been in touch with the CC company and have been released to the financial responsibilities. The matter has been turned over to the Orange County police to do further investigations.

Even if we know our daughter is not the perpetrator of this act, should be hire an attorney? Will the credit card company try to find her on her college campus and interview her? Is this a felony charge? Can they charge my daughter just on an accusation? Please advise.

Sincerely,

Concerned Parents

Re: Credit Card Theft, charges and legal proceedings.

If your daughter is contacted by police it would be a very good idea to hire an attorney.
