Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

A debt is owed to a collection company. I have not been able to pay due to work but am trying to pay what I can and submitted a letter explaining my situation and included for them not to contact my references ajd not to contact me in any way but by mail. They have now contacted me by phone the very next day. What are my rights?

You have the right to sue them under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Florida equivalent. Depending on the facts, you may be able to recover actual damages, punitive damages, attorney's fees, and will get $1,000 for every violation of law, assuming success.
