Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I'm 21 years old, and a student. I was stopped yesterday about to exit a Macys store with the intention of not paying for an item. I was asked to return the item (Less than $100) and retained in a room. I paid a $200 fine to Macys. Later an officer came in and filled out a paper and told me I would receive a letter on the mail with a court date. I would like to know what I can do. This is the first and only time I have ever done this. I have read online about Special Diversion Programs but I cant find where to enroll or how to. Also, What is the process to seal or expunge this from my record. Should I get in contact with a lawyer? is it neccessary or recommended?

Having a lawyer isn't necessary but always recommended. If you are seeking a diversion program you must go to court and only if you qualify will you be offered the program. Typically if you fight the charges you can get them dropped. If you would like to discuss your case further please give my Miami office a call for a free consultation.
