Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

Bar room brawl

I was involved in a fight 2 nights ago. It was an unprovoked attack, and I did not fight back. I have fairly serious injuries. I have a broken nose, a chipped tooth, and I am deaf in my left ear. I phoned the police and they responded. They did not arrest the individual. I filed a report, and they took pictures. I did not go to the hospital. I am a college student majoring in criminology, so I believe in our judicial system. What are the chances that the states attorney will bring charges if no arrest was made? If I go to the hospital, will the individual have a civil liabilty to me? Should I hire a lawyer? What should be my next step? Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear from someone soon.

Re: Bar room brawl

There are two issues. Civil and Criminal. Just because an arrest was not made that night does not mean there won't be an arrest in the future. You can go down to the State Attorney's office and express your desire to get this guy arrested. Go sooner than later, once the bruises fade, so will their interest. The other issue is making the person pay which you should contact an attorney about.
