Is it legal to fire a warning shot to disperse a mob of youths who are severely beating a man and that man is in gave danger?

That is a very grey area. I wouldn't advise it, but if there is NO other alternative you might avoid arrest.

I would say that in general the law does not recognize warning shots. If this was a situation where the victim would be justified in exercising deadly force, then another may exercise the force on their behalf or to stop a force able felony. It is however a situation where the most prudent course of action is to call for law enforcement. Crimes involving the discharge of a firearm carry serious penalties (as in the 20 part of 10-20-life)
