supervised release statue

i was sentenced in 1991 and was released in 2004 from state prison into the federal system. upon my release in 2008 i come to find out that i have 8 years supervised release. how can a statue that came into effect in 1994 affect me when i was sentenced under a different statue. please help!

Unfortunately, you haven't provided enough information for me to assist you in your situation. What were you sentenced to in 1991? What statute are you talking about. I can also better help you if you give me your name, as I can look your history up in the DOC website. It is possible that the 1994 statute should not affect you. Probation officers can often misread the law.
