Legal Question in Elder Law in Florida

Theft of Elder

My mother is 90 years old. She has had a Home Health Aid for the past 2 years. I recently went into her safety deposit box to retrieve papers since my Dad passed away in May and I noticed her jewelry missing. I asked her where her jewelry was and she told me she had it in the house since she wears it. When I looked where she told me the jewelry was, it was not there. I believe either one of her Aide's or cleaning person took this jewelry.

What can I do? Is it too late to contact police? Is there a statute of limitations?

No. It is not too late to call the police and file a report. They might do some investigation but it will most likely be limited unlike what you see on television. All you have are suspicions without any basis so you truly have little for the police to go on in their investigation. At the least, with the police report in hand, you can help your mother file an insurance report if the jewelry is insured.
